Webinar Replay: Odessa College’s Drop Rate Improvement Program
Donald Wood, PhD, Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, Odessa College
In 2012, Odessa College was honored by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board with a “Recognition of Excellence” award for the college’s Drop Rate Improvement Program (DRIP). The program, which seeks to lower the rate of students dropping courses by improving the student-instructor relationship, was developed as a result of findings from a retrospective study of student drops conducted using ZogoTech’s data warehouse and analytics tools. After studying faculty retention rates, their interactions with students and their teaching methods, it was ascertained that drop rates had little to do with the actual teaching methods, but rather with the relationships the teachers have with their students.
In this presentation, Dr. Don Wood will discuss the research that led to the development of the Drop Rate Improvement Program, as well as the implementation of the program at Odessa College. He will also share results of the program to date, which has had a direct, positive effect on improving student retention rates.
